Billabong #8, Billabong Gold Series
Inspired by my time at Bababadoo, my bush camp and studio. Located 20km from the community of Yarrabah, the Billabong series reflects a special spot called Hawk Nest which often has brolgas, barramundi, eels, turtles and a landscape inspiring my works. The bending of light through the trees creates a mystical and spiritual place where I sense my ancestors and those who came before me, living off the land and connecting with their environment. Eating the fish allows me to examine the fish and create details in the works. The Brolgas and other tropical rainforest birds visit to also share in the spoils of the Billabong and creek systems and these are featured in the Billabong series.
